New Farm Home
A family kitchen that lacked impact was the starting point for this New Farm renovation. The goal was straightforward: transform the space into a high-performance, design-led focal point that works as hard as it looks good.

Island Kitchen and Coffee Nook
Design Direction
Functionality drove every decision in this family kitchen. Expanding the footprint and introducing dedicated activity zones transformed the flow of the space significantly.
Key design features:
- Dedicated coffee nook with custom shelving for an organised, efficient workflow
- Pantry cabinets and integrated refrigeration for streamlined everyday use
- An island with abundant storage serving as the central hub for family life and entertaining
- Sink and cooktop relocated to the back run, freeing the island as the room’s social focal point
- Increased island depth and cooktop run for a generous, practical workspace
Materials & Finishes
The cabinetry features Sage Green linoleum door fronts with oak veneer edging, carried through consistently to the carcasses and end panels. Reeded veneer on the overhead cabinets and island back panel introduces a layer of tactile texture that adds depth and visual interest to the overall scheme.
Dekton Laurent stone was selected for the worktops, bringing drama and richness to the palette. The stone frames the existing window, defines the island with bold 40mm waterfall edges, and bridges the existing flooring with the new cabinetry in a seamless, cohesive transition. Bronze accents across the handles and tapware provide a warm, understated finish that ties the whole design together.
Design Challenges & Solutions
Opening up the floor plan meant sacrificing the original pantry, requiring a considered storage strategy to compensate.
Storage solutions incorporated:
- Two large pull-out pantries to replace the lost storage capacity
- Dedicated oil and spice storage flanking the oven for intuitive cooking access
- Oversized island drawers for generous, flexible everyday storage
- Separate coffee nook with custom shelving to further organise the space and improve workflow
The Result
The finished kitchen is harmonious, textural, and highly functional. The layering of linoleum, reeded veneer, and Dekton Laurent stone creates a sophisticated environment with genuine depth, further unified by the client’s decision to extend the Sage Green palette to the bulkheads and feature walls. A kitchen that truly earns its place as the heart of the home.
