Kitchen Layout

Island Kitchen, Pantry, TV unit and Display cabinet

Design Direction

Despite its generous proportions, the kitchen’s split L-shape configuration and large pantry required careful planning to ensure all functional zones worked cohesively. The island was positioned as the central hub, keeping the ovens, cooktop, refrigerators, and sink within easy reach and creating a natural flow throughout the space.

Key design features:

  • Central island anchoring all functional zones for an efficient, intuitive layout
  • Side-by-side ovens framed with channel handles and pantry cabinetry, aligned precisely with the island
  • Fridge and freezer positioned to line up with the island end, creating a sense of symmetry and calm
  • Wrap-around pantry with its own sink, providing a tucked-away, highly functional preparation space
  • Seamless connection between pantry and main kitchen for effortless entertaining

Materials & Finishes

The bold aesthetic is achieved through a striking pairing of Black Fine Oak cabinetry and a showstopper island crafted from Häcker’s Black Star stone veneer. Integrated black channel handles reinforce the visual drama, lending the island a strong, architectural presence that anchors the entire space.

Dekton Sabbia was selected for the countertops as a considered counterpoint to the dark cabinetry. Its light tone, subtle texture, and gentle movement introduce brightness and balance to the palette, ensuring the space feels dynamic rather than heavy.

Design Challenges & Solutions

Unifying a kitchen, pantry, fireplace, TV unit, and display cabinet into one cohesive open-plan space was the central challenge.

Solutions incorporated:

  • Integrated TV unit and display bookshelf designed as a joinery wall in matching Black Fine Oak
  • Fireplace framed within the joinery composition for a considered, architectural finish
  • Wrap-around pantry with a dedicated sink for a self-contained preparation and entertaining zone
  • Island positioned as the central hub with all key appliances within proximity

The Result

The finished space delivers a fully resolved open-plan environment where the kitchen, living, and entertaining zones feel like one. The Black Star stone veneer island commands attention as the room’s focal point, while the integrated TV joinery wall carries the bold Black Fine Oak aesthetic seamlessly into the living zone.
